Class A MotorhomeClass A Motorhomes consist of two different types. A diesel pusher that uses diesel or a gas powered motorhome and the decision to buy either depends on the budget as gas powered rigs are generally much less expensive. These are built using a large heavy duty frame, sometimes on a bus chassis or truck frame.
A diesel engine class A generally has the towing capacity of up to 5,000 lbs making the ability to tow any vehicle seemless. There is typically a lot of storage space below to allow for long term use. Class A motorhomes generally get between 7-12 MPG and are not good on gas mileage. However, if you have your home with you it is simply the cost of a hotel room to get to most destinations.

Class B MotorhomesClass B Motorhomes, can also known as a camping van conversion or van camper, are the most popular type of RV. Class B's are built like of a van, but with a higher roof for additional headroom. Basic needs are met inside complete with small kitchen and bathroom and are ideal for short vacations or weekend trips. Different types of models usually range from 16 to 21 feet.
These can be expensive when you first start out and we recommend looking at used options.

Class C MotorhomesThe Class C motorhome is the compromise between the Class A and the Class B. They are built with a cabin chassis and are easy to spot by their overcab sleeping area on top of the truck body. The Class C motorhome comes in both gas and diesel powered versions and they are able to tow up to 5,000 pounds give you the option of having your car with you.
The Class C motorhome has gas mileage somewhere between the Class A and the Class B motorhome.

Fifth WheelsFifth Wheels are one of the most popular way to enjoy your outdoor experience. Fifth wheels of today come equipped with the most luxurious options making your home on wheels feel much like that of a small apartment. With a full size residential refridgerator, king size beds and fireplaces, they are a very popular option to that of a high end Class A motorhome.
You will need a sturdy truck to pull this, but once set up at a campground you will not want to venture far. The complete set of scenic windows allows you to view your outdoor experience from the comfort of home without feeling closed in. For those that enjoy a cooking experience, you will find a center island in most 5th wheel kitchens. 5th wheels can sometimes vary in length up to over 40' in length.

Travel TrailersIf you are new to camping out and you possibly have a family with small children, you may want to consider a travel traver. You can purchase a travel trailer without breaking the bank. They come with the full set up kitchen and bathroom and you can order them with a set of full bunk beds in the back for the kiddos.
If you do decide to go this direction, make sure you look for a travel trailer with aluminum siding to keep you from having to do some much upkeep and when you store it, try and put it under a cover to keep the roof from direct sunlight. You will have to replace the roof at some point in the life of the trailer. You can purchase a travel trailer in smaller lengths up to 35 feet. |
